New Year’s Resolutions for the Gardener
Roots & Shoots
January 2008
Here are a few suggestions:
In 2008 I will:
- Cut up my kitchen waste small before putting it on the compost heap,
- Plant a Row, Grow a Row for the Food Bank
- Find a way to recycle grey water (that’s waste water) in the garden, for example using washing-up water to water shrubs.
- Start a worm compost bin (Earth’s General Store sell kits).
- Grass-cycle my lawn instead of bagging up grass clippings.
- Install a water butt to save rainwater.
- Feed the birds regularly and put out some water for them too.
- Introduce a child to the joys of gardening.
- Plant some bulbs in the fall to delight me in spring,
- Grow either a plant from seed that I’ve never tried before.
- Make a wildflower area in my garden
- Save some seeds for next year
- Recycle plastic containers to use as seed trays, plant pots, plant labels etc.
- Keep our gardening tools clean and well maintained
- Plant a row of fruit bushes.
- Take pictures of our garden every month to record the work we’ve done and the changes through the seasons.
- Visit other gardens to get new ideas.
