Grand Meadow

Our vision statement: “To grow together as we grow our food”

Grand Meadow Community Garden was conceived by Nancy Siever and Kerry Lyn Humphrey in 2008 as a way to use a vacant area of the lawn of Mill Woods United Church in a way that would involve the community and contribute to local food security.

The church board was very supportive and there was a good level of interest from the community, so things moved very quickly. An information Open House was held in January, and by May 9 the gardens were complete, thanks to the support and enthusiasm from everyone we met all along the way – Brent Cox and his class at J. Percy Page School, the Property Committee and the Council of the church, the Sunday School administrators and the children, the gardeners, and Canar and Cedar Village, who offered generous discounts on materials.

Our gardeners come from all walks of life – some from the condominiums across the street, some Bread Run and Food Bank clients, some congregational members. We have older people who have been gardening all their lives but now live in condos without access to yards, we have young families, newlyweds, single moms and kids.

At this time, there is no waiting list. Anyone who wishes to garden can contact us at 780-463-2202.
