Garden Coordinator Roles and Responsibility

This individual (or committee) is responsible for the every day workings in the garden itself and ensures the directives of the membership is complied by the members.

Responsibilities

The Garden Coordinator may perform all of these duties, or work with committees to accomplish the following tasks:
·      Represents the community garden at events and media opportunities
·      Ensure the garden by-laws are respected by gardeners and volunteers
·      Supervise planting, maintenance, and clean up of site.
·      Maintenance of outbuildings, outdoor signs, tools and equipment

Assist gardeners in
·      planning of the physical project site
·      planting, maintenance, harvesting if they are unable to do so
·      respond to the questions and concerns of gardeners and volunteers
·      mediate in disputes between gardeners, reporting and getting approval from the organizing committee
·      provide horticultural information
·      Arrange for local experts as a resource to horticultural information and to provide training on members’ topics of interest
·      Recruit volunteers
·      develop volunteer skills set
·      evaluate, define, and implement volunteer duties and responsibilities
·      Develop, if possible with the Resource Committee, sources (purchase and donation)  for seeds, plants, mulch, lumber, soil, soil amendments, and other items required by the project throughout the season.
·      Record and regularly report to the organizing committee
·      a garden progress report (written and photographic)
·      money dispersal (if applicable)
·      special activities
·      challenges and successes
·      Assist sub-committees in carrying out projects
·      Coordinate and supervise special work projects
·      Encourage events that will network and build relationships with other organizations, communities, media, individuals that can offer support to the garden. 

The Garden Coordinator reports to the Organizing Committee.


What is the Community Garden Network? Incorporated as a not-for-profit society in 2003, the Community Garden Network (CGN) of Edmonton and Area is comprised of volunteers. Representing existing and emerging community gardens throughout Edmonton and area, it is supported by agencies and organizations that share the vision of the CGN.
