Position: Project Assistant

Organization: Voices of the Soil

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Salary: To be negotiated

Voices of the Soil is a leader in grassroots community development and urban agriculture technologies.  Its focus on soils, community, and local sustainable sourced foods has resulted in the development and sponsorship of projects such as: The Community Garden Network, which can boast over 60 sites in the city and area; Rooftop gardening; EnviroPerfect Solutions, providing an organic turf management system; EcoYouth, a youth environment leadership program; EcoCamp, a day camp introducing nature and growing to children ages 8-12; and Cityfarm Edmonton, a place of discovery about growing food, caring for animals, the environment and each other!

Project Assistant

As a project assistant, you are an exceptional communicator and organizational wizard, who thrives in a fast paced, changing environment. Your accomplishments describe a problem solver in relationships and with tasks.  Your natural versatility makes it easy for others to work with you, as a team member or team leader; you are very committed to both quality performance and quality relationships. Your interest in gardening and community development, and your job performance leads to increasing work responsibilities involving grant coordination, project management, accounting, volunteer coordination and mentoring community gardens.

Qualifications:

·  Demonstrates interpersonal and organizational skills that support the activities of the project manager.

·  A self starter! Keen, positive, proactive attitude to assess a situation, task or project and how best to apply skills and strengths to support the project manager to meet deadlines and project outcomes. 

·  Expert in MS Word, MS Excel, the Web, Outlook and working knowledge of Quicken Accounting system.   

·  Exceptional writing skills.

·   Interest in environmental education; with knowledge or background in gardening or agriculture an asset.

Terms of Employment:

Full time employment. Start date immediate.  Please note that position may be filled before closing date if suitable applicant is found.

Representing existing and emerging community gardens throughout Edmonton and area, it is supported by agencies and organizations that share the vision of the CGN.
